Before Ezra Uganda Assistance provided funding for ten teams of oxen and plows, the people of Namutumba labored for hours under the hot sun to prepare soil for planting by hand. Each set of two oxen and plow cost $500.

The teams are held communally for all to use, and they are in constant demand, as at least 100 families take part in subsistence farming. A total of 20 teams would be optimal, ensuring that every family can plant to maximize crop yields. As the video shows, wrangling a plowing team isn’t easy, but it sure beats tilling with only people power.
